If God was a banker

Author : Ravi Subramani

Read three novels on a trot in a week..blame it on the boring lectures or what..all in the classroom...sitting last bench...thanks to "strategy" classes in this term!!!

this one was in the list. Just got a hand over to this one from a friend. Story of two IIMians who starts their careers in a same bank and move up the ladders at a fast pace. The difference being the attitude of both guys, one being a "shareef" one and the other I-will-move-up-at-any-cost type.

Novel was decent, as usual its written in the same simple manner, the enggs/mbas write. No flowery or keep-a-dictionary-handy vocabulary. The only flaw is the write thought that the way to write a great novel is having a "scene" after every 20-25 pages else the novel won't move ahead. IT ends with the same good guy wins theme. Nevertheless, it wasa good time pass in class when I compare it to the boring lectures.

Thanks Rahul for giving me this novel!!

MY view : can be read once

PS : written by an IIM alumni!!

Joker in the Pack

Author : Ritesh Sharma and Neeraj Pahlajani

Another Engg/MBAs writing again about engg/mba life.....same old stage...but yet again a different story. Here its difficult to call it a story because there is none if you seriously wish to look for one. Its as just the tagline says "An irreverent view of the life at IIMs", just a light on the life at MBA college.

Simply reading, economically priced and thank God! a novel with less of so-called-steamy scenes. I liked the way the authors told us about the middle class mentality for school and college and how typical a nerdy guy in his school time is. Somehow I feel connected to the main character of not being placed in summers on the first ( he got one on the second day and here I am still struggling to get one is a different story altogether) and the question of getting where he wants to or lets say like a joker in the pack.

MY view : one must not read if he/she is aspiring to join an mba college but must read after being there OR one just wants to have a glance of how the mba life is.

hapy reading!!

India Unbound

Title : India Unbound
Author : Gurcharan Das

What a book!!! It took me almost five months to complete this book, I took two three breaks in between too in which I finished some other novels (the ones reviewed below). This book is about India Indians Indianess(don;t know if any such word exist). Its about looking into the social/cultural/economic aspect of a country from author's point of view. But the book has been written in such a manner that you could relate to it every here and there. It starts with the time when the author was born, how India was like then and as the person grows up, how it has changed. It gives an unbiased(as far as I felt) view of various Indian Governments and how their policies have shaped the way India is today. Read it to know more about your country......read it know more about your history......read it to learn about economics.....read it to learn about business ethics.......read it to know about philosophy....read it to know about world affairs........read it to know about people/their psychology......whatever!! just go grab it and read it once and you will cherish what's written in it.I used to be an ardent BJP supporter but after reading this I have realized there are good/bad people everywhere

kudos to Das for writing such a book!!!

My take: One must read it once atleast

Anything For you ma'am

Title : Anything for you ma'am
Author : Tushar Raheja

This novel is again from an IITian about an IITian but with a difference as its more about his personal life rather than IIT's life.Got hold of this novel again from a friend who is in a kinda quest of reading all these types of novels.......chetan bhagat types and above avg one was also recommended to me by him onli......onli left out now is "joker of the packs".....will try to get it from somewhere too.

hmm!! now about the book..........okay! if you can ignore the grammatical errors and don't have those bond type writing style in your mind and just want to read a book for entertainment or to refresh yourself, pick this one. Awesome theme line, quite casual way of writing and too good description...I personally like the book because it was written in somewhat my style of writing and the descriptions too. but there is one more thing too, i could relate myself with the story line and with the main character,Tejas Narula. This novel is much more decent as compared to the previous one with no swear words but somehow in the end , writer has tried to bring every under a word "co-incidence"but then its a novel and not a reality.

My take : will read it whenever I am a bit low or whenever I doubt my decision

Above Average

Title : Above Average
Author : Amitabha Bagchi(another IITian author writing about an IITIan guy)

I got hold of this book from one of my friend who recommended this to me saying that its one of the "realistic" book. I read it and found it a book really based on reality, its more like pages have been teared off from a person's diary and shuffled and presented in the form of book.
And as most of us live a life with just incidents passing by with no meaning or aim, thats the way the book was written -- "aimlessly". It started with a boy going for IIT coaching and ended with a man about to complete his PhD in US. In between, every thing is real......how guys think........what all nasty things dey do.........what all dey fascinate............what all swear words they use.........the true image of a hostel life....passion for rock, studies and ofc! "gals", but then I am not interested in reading someone's else diary which has nothing in it to appeal me or even I dunno nething about the person concerned. I am not interested in knowing what all happens in someone's life..........come on !! write a novel but atleast have a theme .....this book was a sheer disappointment to me but some good things were too...........author was totally honest in showing an IITian's true life and he has a sharp eye for things happening around him but again a boring long and boring description of picturesque around sometimes.

but found some quote which I liked

"The strongest and deepest bonds we form in our life are with those people who know how to hurt u in most devastating way"

"If you really love someone.,it doesn't matter what the cost it, it doesn't matter if they can repay you or not,you have to do whatever you can for them"

"Loneliness is a disease, its symptoms grow rapidly in the night"

my rating : wont read it again ever

why?

usually we start a new thing when we are too motivated or interested in doing that but here the case is different. I am starting this blog to write about what I feel about the books which read, it can be anything from comics to articles to fiction to science to philosophy. These are solely my views. I read a novel which I found very much disappointing but I want to remember that novel for some reasons ...so thought of doing it.......hopes i will keep on reading and posting my views about it

so will start with

"Above Average" by Amitabha Bagchi ...the novel which inspired to start off a blog on the books i have read
